because of it but howard is here and as we said earlier, those closings and delays, the list is growing longer. >> yeah thanks to the snow that we're dealing with. some of the snow totals are in ricksyville, virginia with 4 inches of snow. warrenton 2.5 and o pal 1 inch of snow this morning. >> the big story this morning of course is the nor'easter. it's the northeast and new england bracing for that major winter storm. thousands of flights into and out of the region have already been canceled. delia goncalves is at the airport and she's going to have more on what's happening there coming up in a few minutes. but howard, you are seeing a lot of cancellations especially coming in and out of the -- the area. >> i was reading new york had 2300 plus flight cancellations. >> blizzard warnings up there now. >> when you factor in boston and hartford and providence and albany. it is going to be a ton of problems in. and they're expecting -- there. and they're expecting 2, maybe

3 feet of snow. blizzard warnings throughout. for us we have a little president of snow west. it's the same system but the cold isn't here and the storm not quite mature yet. but sit on its way. -- it is on its way. we're going to have rain this morning a cold rain. but after the noon hour, just some showers and maybe even a peek or two of sunshine as winds turn northwesterly and the low passes the region. but west of town winter weather advisories we're seeing the snow upper montgomery, frederick, loudoun especially western loudoun through fauquier, even down in bealton have reports of snow too. but it's really been culpeper and madison and rappahannock counties with 2 to 4-inches of snow. you can see it all to the west. i think it's a little snowier over the last couple of frames than what we've been showing you. but culpeper is 36 and it's still snowing. frederick reports of light snow in the city at least. where the roads are wet but north and west we probably have some issues there. then the snows go down into especially northern fauquier

county. madison. then in southern montgomery, charles county and southeastern prince george's county. moderate to heavy rains coming out of northern neck. her temperatures around 41 and it's 38 tappahannock. but at andrews and leesburg and frederick the temperatures above freezing, we've got some snow and sleet and freezing rain west. that means some issues on the roads. with more on that monika samtani now with timesaver traffic. everywhere you see 32 is where you want to be concerned because that's where the snow is sticking and it's getting a little bit icy. in? case be careful out west coming in on 66. we've heard about a lot of separate accidents and everything minor and a lot of slipping and sliding especially to gainesville and then beyond that just heavy now out of centreville towards fairfax and vienna. the beltway still looks okay through the tysons area with annandale and springfield. here's northbound 95 and tough heavy -- 395 and heaviest
6:03 am
stretches on 95 now coming up from dale city to the occoquan river. here at 395 duke vet just i think -- street i think just going to be at or below the speed limit closer to seminary road and the 14th street bridge. back to the maps this time heading in from the north. as howard's been saying since early this morning and now you can tell by the maps, you see the yellow and orange forming from frederick and that's because things are slowing down with some dicey conditions on the roadways. that's going to extend from route 109 to 121. once beyond that it seems to be okay in the jermantown area. live look outside one more time. and this time a little further south here at route 121. road conditions are wet. but no problems as you head from here down to the point where the lanes divide. back to you mike. thanks monika. ahead of the massive storm headed for the northeast thousands of flights have been canceled. >> additional cancellations are expected a lot of them actually. as everybody braces for the nor'easter up in new york, new jersey, connecticut, massachusetts, maine, all the way up the coast, delia goncalves is live from reagan national airport with more on

what travelers really from the whole united states can expected to because a lot -- expect today because a lot of flights are canceled. >> reporter: that's right mike and a lot of folks in the hometown bracing for 2 feet of snow possibly. in the last ten minutes we were outside and we talked about the activity that we saw outside probably the busiest that i've seen this airport in the very early hours. of course it is friday and perhaps maybe with a lot of folks trying to get out before the storm really strikes but now we're inside take a look at the terminal here. just -- you know some slight traffic here. not too busy here in the terminal. but we can report to you several cancellations so far. about eight cancellations to boston. we know that three flights have been canceled to jfk rather and about eight to laguardia. we've already checked in with u.s. airlines and we are hearing that they've canceled a record 2,000 flights between yesterday and today. and they're expecting many more flights to be canceled so certainly it's going to be a very tough day here at the airport for many travelers who are trying to get to the new

england area. certainly call ahead. a lot of airlines are making accommodations for you and they're offering folks services where they can cancel the flights and they can actually reschedule at a later date. but certainly it's going to be a tough ride for a lot of folks trying to head to new england. much more coming up in a half hour. back to you. >> thanks delia live at national airport this morning. just an awful story out of annapolis this morning. a woman from annapolis is due in court this morning on charges she murdered her own 2- year-old daughter. investigators are now focusing on a trash facility in anne arundel county with hopes of finding kassidey booth's booth. police say chelsea booth smothered the toddler this week and then tossed the body in a trash. they believe it ended up on bridge ridge road in jessup at a waste management facility. the search continues this morning. a massive man hunt is underway in southern california for an excop allegedly hunting

his former colleagues. police believe christopher dorner has already killed three people. he posted a manifesto on the facebook page where he revealed he would vow revenge for being fired from the force in 2008. he threatened the officials involved in firing -- the firing as well as their families. the search for dorner stretches across three states but right now it's focused mainly on big bear, california where police found his burned out truck. >> 6:06 and jessica doyle is in with another your money report. >> a big airline deal could impact your money especially if you're a business traveler. >> we have u.s. airways and american potentially on the eventual of announcing a merger that would create the world's biggest airline. so a lot of people might be wondering what does this deal mean for me and possibly my next flight? well first up will fares rise? the "wall street journal" predicts in the long-term, they probably will. as the industry consolidates the airlines have been picking up more pricing power. if this deal goes through, since 2001 mergers have turned ten airlines into just four.
6:07 am
that gives you an idea how much the consolidation is going on. you may also be wondering about your frequent flier miles, your other perks. in the past consumers have been able to retain everything they earned. what could happen in this case u.s. airways flyers would be able to transfer their miles to american's advantage program. if you have accounts on both you might be able to combine them but there's also the possibility that the value of some of the miles could be reduced as the airlines work out new policies together. u.s. airways currently the biggest carrier out of reagan national. and that could be affected but probably not anytime soon. since this deal is aimed at getting bigger, you're probably not going to see trimming of services at hubs. and there's still a chance that this deal won't happen. amr could back out and work through bankruptcy on its own or the bankruptcy judge and the justice department could have problems with this merger based on anticompetitive reasons, antitrust reasons. so we're just going to have to wait and see. >> i heard that amr did have a
